Professional Profile and Experience
Dr. Vance joined ROC Aberdeen in September 2016, adding her distinguished expertise in allergy to the clinical team. Dr. Vance qualified in Medicine from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1992.
She went on to complete higher specialist training in Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Southampton General Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital (specialist accreditation, 2005). She took up a consultant post at the Royal Victoria Hospital New Castle upon Tyne in 2005 as clinical lead for the regional (tertiary) allergy service, which provides specialist allergy care to children over the whole of the North East of England and North Cumbria. This service includes both injection and tablet/oral drop desensitization for pollen and house dust mite allergy. Dr Vance is currently an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Allergy at Great Norths Children’s Hospital Newcastle upon Tyne.
Dr. Vance has an academic portfolio with initial PhD investigating the early life factors that may influence the development of allergy. She now also leads a team in medical education research at the University of Newcastle. Dr. Vance also has a keen interest in teaching and training. She is the course lead for a new online allergy module at the University of Newcastle and is the allergy representative for the specialty training committee at the Royal College of Pediatrics & Child Health, as well as the subspecialty representative on the Education & Quality Training Committee. Dr Vance is also the Co-lead of NIHR incubator for Clinical Education and the Director of the Academic Foundation Programme, Northern Foundation School.
