Why book a gynaecological check this month
September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month. It exists so that symptoms get looked at earlier rather than waited out, and a routine check is the first step to knowing where your gynae health stands.
What the appointment gives you
Thirty minutes with a consultant gynaecologist who takes your history, examines you and scans you in the same room:
- A clear look at your womb and ovaries. The pelvic ultrasound covers the womb, the ovaries and the lining of the womb.
- Changes found while they are small. Fibroids, ovarian cysts, a thickened womb lining and other changes that are worth following up.
- Answers before you leave. Your consultant reads the scan as she goes and tells you what has been found, with a written report afterwards.
What your appointment includes
Everything in one appointment
- Thirty minutes with a consultant gynaecologist, including your history and an examination
- A pelvic ultrasound carried out by the same consultant, in the same room
- Your findings explained to you before you leave
- A written report, which we can send to your GP with your consent
- No referral needed from your own GP
The same consultant carries out both the consultation and the scan, so nothing is booked for another day.
Your visit, step by step

Your consultation

Your scan

Your report
Your doctor interprets your results and explains what they mean for you, and you are given a written summary of the findings.

Is this appointment for you?
Most people book it because something has been on their mind for a while, or because a routine check is overdue.
Worth booking if
- You cannot remember the last time you had a gynae check
- Your periods have changed and you have been putting off getting it looked at
- You have been told you have fibroids or an ovarian cyst and want them reviewed
- Ovarian or womb cancer runs in your family and you want a baseline
- You want the consultation and the scan done together rather than weeks apart

Frequently asked questions
No. It is a consultation and a pelvic ultrasound, and a scan can show changes worth investigating further. It cannot diagnose or exclude a gynaecological cancer on its own, and it does not replace cervical screening. What it does give you is 30 minutes with a consultant gynaecologist, a look at your womb and ovaries, and a written report of what was found. If you have symptoms that are worrying you now, see a doctor rather than waiting for a booked date.
No. You book directly on this page. The consultation is part of the appointment, so the referral for the scan is not something you need to arrange first. If you would like us to write to your GP with your report, we can do that with your consent.
Yes. You need to be aged 16 or over to book this offer.
Yes. Free parking on site at Westhill.
The scan concentrates on your lower abdomen and the pelvic cavity, so it looks at the womb and the ovaries. It helps to come with a full bladder, because that makes the images easier to read. Your consultant will explain the scan and ask your consent before starting, and it only takes a few minutes.
Cervical screening is a separate test and is not part of this appointment. If you are due one, you can book it separately online or by calling us on 01224 515 254.
Your consultant reads the scan as she carries it out, so you are told what has been found before you leave. The written report follows afterwards, and we can send a copy to your GP with your consent.
You can move your appointment to another available date. If you cancel it, the booking is unfortunately non-refundable, because it is paid in advance at the reduced price.
Not for this offer. The £450 price is self-pay only. We accept most major and international insurers at the standard price, so call us on 01224 515 254 if you would rather claim than take the discount.
Yes. The facility is registered and regulated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
