Dr Hanan Hamed is a Consultant Community Paediatrician and previous Service Clinical Director for Community Child Health at NHS Grampian who has heavily engaged in quality improvement projects With over 30 years of clinical experience, she leads one of the the 6 Child Development teams in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire Dr Hamed is widely respected for her expertise in autism, ADHD, child development, and multi-agency working.
Dr Hamed completed her MB BS at the University of Khartoum in 1988 and later earned a Master’s in Child Health from Warwick University with Autism being the focus of her project. She is a fellow member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, having completed the MRCP qualifications in 1998, and holds CESR accreditation in Community Child Health (2019). She is also a trained ADOS assessor and GMC-registered with a license to practice.
As Clinical Lead for a Child Development team and previous service lead for Community Child Health Services in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire, Dr Hamed delivers neurodevelopmental assessments for autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, and complex developmental conditions and neurodisability. She has great experience in the different modalities of treatment for ADHD, ensuring safe prescribing and optimal control of ADHD symptoms. She coordinates multi-disciplinary assessments, delivers post-diagnostic support, and works closely and in liaison with the wider multi-agency team, including education, social work, and allied health professionals, and CAMHS. She also provides visiting specialist clinics in Orkney.
Dr Hamed maintains level 3 competencies in child safeguarding and works within the GIRFEC framework (Getting It Right For Every Child), leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary meetings for children with complex needs.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Hamed has leadership /training roles. She is an appraiser and medical educator. She has an honorary Associate status in the Institute of Education in Health Care and Medical Sciences within the School of Medicine, University of Aberdeen. She contributes to curriculum development and medical student teaching. She regularly attends national conferences, delivers departmental training, and mentors junior colleagues. She is an Educational and Clinical supervisor and currently acts as the community child health lead for the North of Scotland.
