Professional Profile and Experience

Maria Carlsvard is a highly accomplished Integrative Humanistic Counsellor who brings over 25 years of professional experience to her practice. Accredited by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), Maria specializes in providing comprehensive therapeutic support to adults, couples, and adolescents. Originally from Sweden, Maria has spent the majority of her adult life living and working in the United Kingdom. She offers a unique, cross-cultural perspective alongside her deeply rooted clinical expertise.

Maria earned her Advanced Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling from West Kent College in 2000. She later advanced her expertise with a Postgraduate Diploma in Couple Counselling from InterPsyche and a Certificate in the Therapeutic and Educational Applications of the Arts from London’s Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education.

Beginning her career in Primary Care in 2001, Maria spent nearly two decades working within NHS Primary Care Psychological Therapy Services. During this time, she established her own private practice, transitioning to work primarily as an independent practitioner in 2019. Her diverse clinical background also includes managing a domestic violence helpline and spending a year as a counsellor at Swaleside Prison in Kent.

In 2024, Maria joined ROC as an affiliated counsellor, later transitioning to a hybrid model where she divides her time between on-site sessions in Aberdeen and remote online consultations. Alongside her commitments with ROC, she continues to provide independent therapy to individuals, couples, and adolescents through her private practice.
