One-Stop Breast Clinic in Aberdeen

We are proud to offer our patients a comprehensive One-Stop Breast Clinic in Aberdeen. You’ll receive a thorough diagnostic assessment in a single appointment, including a consultation with one of our experienced breast specialists.

Breast Screening in Aberdeen

All necessary tests and investigations, such as mammograms, ultrasound scans, and, if needed, fine needle biopsies, are carried out on the same day for your convenience. Our One-Stop Clinic pathway provides you with a unique service and reduces the time between your initial investigation and diagnosis, helping to reduce any anxiety. Though you may be referred by your GP or consultant, you do not need a referral from your GP or another clinician to attend this clinic. We accept most major insurers or offer self-pay options.

The One-Stop Breast Clinic is supported by a full multidisciplinary team including mammographers, radiologists, surgeons, cytologist and nurses. Some results are even immediately available, such as scans and cytology. When required, your case will be discussed at a MDT meeting supported by an Oncologist.

Why have breast screening?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with one in eight affected during their lifetime. The risk increases significantly after the age of 40, with 80% of diagnoses occurring in women over 45. Regular screening is essential for early detection and can offer great reassurance.

It’s important to remember that changes in your breasts are often normal and usually related to development or aging. However, if you’re concerned about any changes, it’s always best to speak with your doctor.

We recommend checking your breasts a few days after your period, as normal lumps can appear during your menstrual cycle. When examining your breasts, look and feel for lumps, swelling, or any differences between them. Other signs to be aware of include:

  • Redness or scaliness of the nipple or breast skin
  • Skin irritation or dimpling
  • Unusual discharge from the nipple
  • Nipple pain or the nipple turning inward

If you notice anything unusual, it’s important to contact your doctor as soon as possible. If necessary, they can refer you to one of our specialist rapid access breast clinics for further investigations. Whether you have a specific concern or would like a routine breast health assessment, ROC is here to provide the care and support you need.

Other Breast Services

At ROC, we offer breast health assessment services such as:

  • This is an opportunity for individuals to address any general concerns and to be examined by one of our breast care specialists, along with investigation of any abnormality detected and personalised planning for breast cancer screening.
  • This is widely recognised as the main identification tool for breast cancer and is vital in the diagnosis and staging of detected cancer lesions.
  • We offer state-of-the-art 3D mammography combined with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) software to assist the radiologist in reading the images. ROC is the only private healthcare facility in the UK using Breast AI in clinical practice routinely, and all women attending the clinic will be offered a 3D mammogram.
  • Breast ultrasound may be sufficient to investigate your symptoms although often it is undertaken in conjunction with a mammogram.
  • Dense breasts make it harder for doctors to see breast cancers on 2D mammograms and increase a woman’s risk for developing breast cancer. Therefore all women attending a mammogram at ROC will have a breast density report.
  • If you have a breast lump, your clinician may recommend you have a biopsy to find out if the lump is benign or malignant. Following a local anaesthetic a small tissue sample will be collected using a needle (ultrasound images are used to guide the radiologist). This sample will then be analysed to determine the nature of the identified lump.
  • This specific type of biopsy may be required if a mammogram shows a breast abnormality such as:
    • Microcalcifications can be seen on your mammogram, but cannot be felt or seen on an ultrasound.
    • Distortion in the structure of the breast tissue that cannot be easily explained.
    • Abnormal tissue change in an area of the breast.
    • New calcium deposits at a previous surgery site.

During the procedure under a local anaesthetic, one of our expert radiologists will use mammography images produced at various angles to guide a mechanised needle to remove the tissue sample.

I wanted to let Valerie Peddie know that we are q weeks pregnant today and our scan shows the baby is well and developing as expected. Her kindness, patience and general support as I was going through the IVF process in London but attending your clinic in Aberdeen for scans was invaluable to me. Please thank her so much on my behalf.
I got a same-day appointment with Dr Dele-salawu on 14th October. She was very knowledgeable and attentive, she allowed me to tell her the details of my concerns and arranged appropriately for urgent tests. I was very pleased with the whole experience.

Attended this clinic for minor surgery and was very impressed indeed. Dr Sathis Wijemanne was exceptionally professional and explained in detail what to expect from the procedure.
