Dr Akhtar attained his MBBS and a Bachelors in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Imperial College London. Further to this he completed a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Queen Mary University London. He completed his training in Cambridge and London, becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Dr Akhtar has a special interest in exercise and musculoskeletal medicine. He has been the medical lead at three different elite level sports clubs and has lectured physiotherapists on management of musculoskeletal presentations in primary care. He has also trained in Western Medical Acupuncture.
Dr Akhtar has been recently appointed ROC’s London Medical Lead.
Dr Akhtar is passionate about utilizing his advanced training in exercise medicine to empower patients in making lifestyle changes to optimize their care. This involves using exercise and physical activity as a tool to prevent and manage numerous health conditions including diabetes, obesity, frailty, heart disease, chronic lung conditions, back pain, arthritis and psychiatric conditions such as depression and anxiety.
Dr Akhtar believes in taking a holistic evidence-based approach and collaborating with patients to deliver individualized excellence in healthcare.
