Mammogram

Breast screening is one of the most effective methods of detecting breast cancer early. The UK has a national screening programme with women aged 50-70 years being invited for a mammogram every 3 years although in some parts of the UK, the screening commences as early as age 47.

ROC offers 2D, 3D mammograms and Breast Density measurements as part of our One-Stop Breast Clinic. Our Well Woman packages also include routine breast cancer screening.

What is a Mammogram?

Mammograms are designed to take images of the breast so that any abnormal areas can be locate. Whilst a mammogram can’t prove that an abnormal area is cancer, they can help doctors decide whether more testing is required. Screening currently diagnoses about 10,000 cases of breast cancer annually, and since 1988 has saved many lives by early detection of breast cancer.

In many clinics, 2D mammography is still the standard technology, but at ROC we utilise 3D digital mammography that can increase the detection of early breast cancer, particularly in patients with dense breast tissue. We are the only private facility in Scotland to have available 3D mammography facilities and we offer this method of screening to all women.

This imaging technique combined with AI (artificial intelligence) is the future for both diagnostic and screening mammography. Here at ROC the use of AI assists our Consultant Radiologist in reporting our mammogram images.

ROC is the only private healthcare facility in UK utilising Breast AI in clinical practice.

Why book a Mammogram?

Mammograms are widely recognised as the main screening tool for breast cancer in patients over 40 and are vital in the diagnosis and staging of detected breast cancer lesions.

Regular breast checks should form part of any woman’s daily routine, particularly those of a certain age where the level of risk is higher. Some conditions to look out for include lumps, cysts, painful breasts and mastitis. A fast, appropriate diagnosis and treatment can make all the difference.

It is vital part of the monitoring process for women with a strong family history of breast cancer or for those who have had previously had treatment or surgery for breast cancer.

Regular breast screening helps detect cancer or any other abnormalities at an early stage which in turn helps with the early detection and treatment of any conditions. This is why women over the age of 40 are advised to get their mammograms done annually.

How do you book a Mammogram?

All women attending a mammogram require a referral from a doctor.

Please contact your GP for a referral or see one of doctors at ROC for a same day service.
